Brian Bruney has decided to try to rehab the torn Lisfranc
ligament in his right foot without surgery. Bruney was examined by three doctors. They gave him the option of having surgery on the foot or hoping it heals through wearing a boot for the next month or so and resting it.
"I'm not having it," Bruney said. "If everything goes as planned with the boot, and I don't need surgery, I could be back in August. It's worth it to me to at least try to get back this year."
With surgery, he would almost certainly miss the rest of the season.
Extra bases

Chad Moeller cleared waivers and the Yankees signed him to a major league contract. To clear room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees reinstated lefty Sean Henn from the disabled list, then designated him for assignment. They optioned catcher Chris Stewart to Triple-A. They also recalled righthander Chris Britton to take injured Alex Rodriguez's spot ... Wilson Betemit (corneal ulcers) will begin a rehab assignment today with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
