April 3, 2000, at Shea: Al Leiter struck out seven in eight innings as the Mets beat the Padres, 2-1. Armando Benitez got the save after Derek Bell's solo homer in the eighth.

April 2, 2003, at Shea: After the Mets were routed in the season opener, Al Leiter rode early home runs by Cliff Floyd and Roger Cedeño to a 4-1 win over the Cubs.
This day at the old ballpark: April 1
April 1, 2002, at Shea: Al Leiter earned his only Opening Day victory as a Met when he allowed four hits and a walk and struck out four in six innings in a 6-2 win against Pittsburgh before 53,734. Edgardo Alfonzo, in his last season as a Met, had three hits. Jay Payton and Roberto Alomar had two RBIs each.
This day at the old ballpark: March 31
March 31, 2002, at Shea: Tom Glavine disappointed an Opening Day crowd of 53,586 in his Mets debut. The first four batters reached base and he was knocked out in the fourth inning in a 15-2 loss to the Cubs.
