Here's a little card that Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka might want to put in his wallet.
Prominent orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, perhaps best known for his recent Tommy John surgeries, is now pictured on Topps trading cards.
Andrews has operated on numerous sports stars and runs surgical centers in Alabama and Florida. His card is one of the 350 included in Topps' Allen & Ginter collection. A smiling Andrews is featured wearing surgical scrubs. There is also an autographed version of the card along with a high-end variation that includes a swatch of his scrubs.
Andrews has gained national prominence with a patient list that has included Matt Harvey, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and Bo Jackson.
Andrews is a founder of Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and the Andrews Research and Education Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida, along with the nonprofit American Sports Medicine Institute.
Tanaka suffered a partially torn ligament in his right elbow. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that Tanaka could return in six weeks but didn't rule out Tommy John surgery.
