October 2, 1978: After blowing a 14-game AL East lead with two months to go, the Red Sox had to win their final eight games just to force a one-game playoff with the Yankees. The Sox led 2-0 going into the top of the seventh, but light-hitting shortstop Bucky Dent delivered a three-run home run to devastate Boston and send the Yankees into the playoffs.
