Diehl backs Eli for top 100

A few other nuggets from the guys at Thursday’s Project Sunshine event in Long Island City:
David Diehl did not seem very surprised that Eli Manning was left off the NFL Network’s list of top 100 players from 2010, even though he thinks he belongs there.
“I think he should have been on there 100 percent,” he said. “You think about all the different people on there and who isn’t. I think the most important thing is what you’re known for at the end of your career, not if you were in the top 100 of whoever picks it. You’ll talk to somebody in 10 years and they’ll say ‘Oh, Eli Manning, Super Bowl MVP, led us to this and that.’ They’re not going to say ‘Well, in the 2010 season he wasn’t in the top 100 of the NFL Network.’ I think he should have been, but I think just like anything that’s happened to Eli, myself, this team, it’s going to fuel us for this season coming up.”
By the way, this Sunday Justin Tuck will be featured in the countdown, somewhere between numbers 60 and 51. He’ll be presented by Steve Spagnuolo. Antrel Rolle was on the list and unveiled last week at number 68.
Kevin Boothe just recently celebrated the one year anniversary of the surgery to repair the torn pectoral muscle that kept him out for half the 2010 season. He was looking forward to a full offseason program this year, he said. Tough luck, Kevin.
Boothe is one of the guys in lockout limbo as far as free agency. He’s got five years of service, so depending on the terms the league comes back to business with he could be a restricted or unrestricted free agent. He said he’d like to stay with the Giants, and they tendered him as a precaution right before the lockout.
Kevin Boss, too, could be a free agent. He said that when the lockout is lifted he’ll be ready to run to the facility and get to work. I noted that he may not know which facility he’ll be running to as of yet. “Yeah,” he said with a smile. “Hopefully I’ll be going back to the Timex Performance Center.”
