  • Eagles win lifted "burden" off Giants

    WEEK 3: GIANTS 29, EAGLES 16 (Sept. 25,

It’s funny how these things work. A week ago at this time people were worrying that the Giants’ season would start spinning out of control with a loss to the Eagles. Now that they’ve beaten the Eagles, the questions are about the Giants being over-confident.

But Justin Tuck said we shouldn’t worry about that.

“We’ve seen it many a time where you feel so good about yourself, you go out there and have a letdown, and you’re right back to square one,” he said. “Everybody knows about playing three and a half quarters.”

The reference, of course, being to the game against the Eagles last year when the Giants led by three touchdowns with just over seven minutes left.

“That was a heartbreaking game and to come back and beat them down there considering everybody had already written us off for the year, obviously you’re emotions are going to be high,” he said. “But to guard against a letdown our leadership has stepped up and let guys know, ‘Hey, man, just like last year we played those three and a half quarters, this season has a long way to go and take it one game at a time.’”

Tuck did say that this has been a good week of practice. And there is a different attitude following the win.

“A lot of guys flying around, a lot of noise being made, guys having fun,” he said. “You can just tell. It’s like there’s been a burden lifted off of guys that is allowing them to go out and be free to play. A lot of guys making plays on both sides and the competition level seems like it has increased. When you see something like that, it’s easy for you to say that the possibility of a let down is slim.”

“I see guys, the personalities have come back out,” he added later. “Not that it was bad before, but you can tell there’s a lot more freedom around here as far as guys going out and playing a game.”
