An unlicensed driver was chased down by a good Samaritan after fatally striking a woman with his car on Sunday night, police said.
The driver, 27-year-old Valentine Gonzalez, allegedly slammed his truck into a 26-year-old woman as he was making a left turn from 76th Street onto Woodside Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the intersection.
Gonzalez tried to drive away in his white Mitsubishi box truck, but a witness who saw the accident chased after him, police said. He stopped Gonzalez a few blocks later at 73rd Street and 41st Avenue, police said, where he was taken into custody.
Gonzalez was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and driving without a license. He was awaiting arraignment Monday and could not be reached for comment.
