Alcala, serial killer on death row, indicted in NY murders
New information has connected Rodney Alcala, the California serial killer with the genius-level IQ, with two 1970s cold-case slayings in the city, the Manhattan District Attorney's office said Thursday.
After scouring through the evidence again, combined with information that came to light at Alcala’s trial last year, the DA indicted the 67-year-old in the deaths of Cornelia Crilley and Ellen Hover.
Crilley, 23, was a flight attendant found raped and strangled in her Upper East Side apartment in 1971. Hover, 23, also of Manhattan, was found murdered in Westchester in 1977.
Alcala is currently on death row for five murders. The Manhattan DA’s office is looking to extradite him to New York to be arraigned.
