Alleged subway perv makes daring escape attempt, gets arrested
An alleged creep accused of rubbing up against a woman on a rush hour subway on Tuesday night made a bold escape attempt, hopping onto the track moments before another train rolled into the station.
A police officer tried to collar Basam Syed after he was busted for repeatedly rubbing his groin against an unidentified 32-year-old woman's behind on an uptown No. 6 train at around 6:30 p.m., according to police and a criminal complaint.
Syed, 32, then "jumped off of the subway platform on the tracks and ran across the tracks to the other side of the platform in order to prevent being handcuffed," the complaint said.
A purported video of the incident, which was posted on YouTube, shows a man pleading with a plainclothes officer before dashing down the platform, jumping onto the road bed and tripping several times over the tracks as he made his way to the other side. Another uptown train pulled into the station seconds later.
Cops arrested Syed 15 minutes later, according to an NYPD spokesman, who said he had a "long" criminal history.
Syed was released on bail
