Amanda Bynes put on involuntary psych hold: Reports
Amanda Bynes was placed un- der an involuntary psychiatric hold yesterday after allegedly setting a fire in the driveway of a California home, according to published reports.
Bynes, 27, was taken in for an evaluation and then held after fire officials responded to a disturbance in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where Bynes allegedly set a fire in a home's driveway and laid a flaming cloth atop a gas tank, reports said. A next-door neighbor put out the fire on the driveway after hearing a small explosion, after which a 911 call was placed and officials responded, according to the Daily News.
There were no injuries.
Bonnie Braaten, the 73-year-old woman who owned the home, said she didn't feel targeted and didn't even realize what had happened until police knocked on her door.
"It's sad," Braaten told the Daily News.
"I'm glad no one was hurt and it didn't spread to my house and my neighbor's house," she said. "It could have been really bad. The gas can itself could have exploded."
Bynes was taken into the custody of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office and given a psych evaluation, after which it was determined she would be put on a 5150 hold, or held involuntarily for the protection of herself and others, TMZ.com reported.
The former child star and "Easy A" actress has been on what appears to be a tailspin for months, and was arrested in May in Manhattan for allegedly tossing a bong out of her apartment window.
She threatened to sue the NYPD after the arrest for "illegally entering my apartment" and "lying about drugs on me" in one of many tirades she has posted on Twitter. She ended the rant by writing, "I'm getting in shape and getting a nose job! I'm looking forward to a long and wonderful career as a singer/rapper!"
Bynes' erratic tweets, in which she attacks other celebrities -- even President Barack Obama -- for being "ugly" and obsesses about plastic surgery for her nose, have perplexed many and have compounded talk of whether she is stable. All along, though, she has said she's completely fine.
Her rep didn't respond to a request for comment.
