Behind the Curtain: Headland's 'Assistance' to be turned into sitcom, more
"Assistance," a terrific comedy by Leslye Headland ("Bachelorette") that briefly played Off-Broadway last season, is being developed into a single-camera television sitcom by NBC, as first reported by Deadline.com. Loosely inspired by Headland's experience working for megaproducer Harvey Weinstein, "Assistance" depicts the young, overworked personal assistants of a demanding and extremely difficult boss.
St. Ann's sets season for reboot on Jay Street
St. Ann's Warehouse, which recently lost its longtime home on Water Street due to a major rezoning project, is set to spring back to action with its first season at its new home at nearby Jay Street. The impressive lineup includes "Mies Julie," a South African production of the August Strindberg classic play "Miss Julie," a new show by performance artist Cynthia Hopkins and "The Wild Bride," a Grimm's fairy tale with a bluegrass score performed by the Kneehigh Theatre ("Brief Encounter").
Lauria back to Broadway for 'Christmas'
Dan Lauria, who appeared on Broadway two seasons ago in "Lombardi" but is still best remembered as the father on "The Wonder Years," has joined the cast of "A Christmas Story, the Musical." He will play radio star Jean Shepherd, whose stories inspired the film on which the musical is based.
Paper Mill hoping to mount 'Chorus' reunion
