'Rainbow' announces closing, eyes film
It's the end of the line for "The End of the Rainbow," the melodramatic tabloid drama starring Tracie Bennett as Judy Garland during her last days. Its producers confirmed Tuesday that the play, which has been sinking at the box office in recent weeks, will shutter on Aug. 19. However, they noted that the production will play Los Angeles next season and that a film adaptation starring Bennett is also being planned.
Mitchell to debut 'Hedwig' sequel
It looks like the rumors were true. We're getting word that John Cameron Mitchell and his collaborator Stephen Trask are preparing a sequel to "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" that will again star Mitchell as the fierce and unforgettable transgender rock star. It will premiere next month at the Afterglow Festival in Provincetown, Mass.
Lansbury attached to 'Anastasia' musical
A stage version of the 1997 animated film musical "Anastasia" is in the works, as first reported by BroadwayWorld .com. An industry reading took place last week that starred Angela Lansbury, repeating her performance from the film version as the Dowager Empress Marie.
