Big-name colleges apply to build NYC's premiere science school

Stanford, Columbia and Cornell are among the universities that formally submitted applications to build the city’s premiere technology and applied sciences campus, the mayor announced Monday.
The city received a total of seven applications proposing that the graduate program be hosted in midtown, Governor’s Island, West Harlem, Brooklyn or Roosevelt Island. One or more winners will be announced in January, and the city will provide the land and up to $100 million in capital. It could take several years before a campus is completed.
With new jobs and investments on the horizon, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the project would be a “real economic game changer” for the city, spawning at least $6 billion in related economic activity and 30,000 new jobs.
