Rahmell Pettway needed an excuse for avoiding his girlfriend for two weeks -- so, naturally, he faked his own kidnapping.

Police found the 36-year-old Brooklyn man on Thursday hog-tied with duct tape lying in the street near Macon Street near Malcolm X Boulevard. But when they noticed the roll of duct tape dangling from his wrists, it became all too clear that Pettway had bound himself, the New York Post reported.

“He’s a total moron,” said one law-enforcement source told the Post. “It was a pathetic attempt to pull the wool [over] her eyes.”

Pettway, who lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant, eventually confessed to staging his kidnapping in order to escape his girlfriend’s anger after he’d avoided her for two weeks.

He was arrested for filing a false police report, according to the Post, just the latest of his 14 arrests, including robbery and assault.
