Brooklyn man wounded in shootout with cops arraigned on murder charges
A Brooklyn man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he tried to gun down police officers after holding his pregnant girlfriend and their infant son hostage in his Sheepshead Bay apartment earlier this month.
Nakwon Foxworth, 33, was hit with charges including attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon at Kings County Hospital, where he has been recovering from a gunshot to the torso from the cops, who said they were returning fire. Four veteran cops sustained minor injuries from the 12 bullets Foxworth allegedly squeezed off during the incident.
Foxworth did not enter a plea Wednesday, and the name of his lawyer was not available.
After the bloody shootout, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters that cops found a “cache of weapons” in his apartment.
Foxworth, who has previously been imprisoned for a separate attempted murder case, faces a maximum of 40 years to life in prison if convicted. He is due back in court at the end of June.
