  • Can't-miss shows in NYC during the holidays

    Not everything is closed for the holidays. If you're looking for something to do, check out these events that are sure to put you in a festive spirit.

    'The 8 Nights of Hanukkah' with Yo La Tengo
    "The 8 Nights of Hanukkah," held annually, features a variety of musical and comedy acts coming together to raise money for charity while celebrating the Jewish holiday. (Through Dec. 27, 8 p.m., $20, Maxwell's, maxwellsnj.com)

    'Radio City Christmas Spectacular'
    This year's rendition of the New York classic features a new opener and traditional favorites like "March of the Wooden Soldiers" and "Living Nativity." (Through Jan. 2, $45-$199, Radio City Music Hall, radiocity

    Kwanzaa Celebration
    Abdel Salaam's Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, a New York-based group, will shake the Apollo Theater in this celebration of family, community and culture. (Dec. 30, 7:30 p.m., $14-$16, Apollo Theater,  apollotheater.org)

    'The Three Bears Holiday Bash'
    Geared toward kids, this variety show (hosted by Baby Bear himself) uses comedy, puppetry and dance to tell the stories of Hanukkah, "The Night Before Christmas" and Kwanzaa. (Through Dec. 30, $5-$8, Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater, cityparksfoundation.org)

    Holiday Train Show  at the New York Botanical Garden
    Check out an extensive collection of model trains and 140 scale replicas of city landmarks - made entirely from plants! It's housed in the NYBG's conservatory, so you'll be able to enjoy the show rain or shine. (Through Jan. 2, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, $25 for adults, $15 for children ages 2-12, NYBG.org)

    George Balanchine's 'The Nutcracker'
