Carey Mulligan to play Hillary Clinton in biopic: Report
Hillary Clinton's political future is still a mystery, but we might know who will play her in an upcoming biopic.
"The Great Gatsby" star Carey Mulligan is the front-runner to nab the role in the film about Clinton's early life, edging out Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone, according The Hollywood Reporter.
The film's producers are eager to work with Mulligan, THR said, though her status as frontrunner comes as a surprise after her name wasn't mentioned for the role when news about the film broke last year, according to the trade publication.
Still, there is no final decision, and other actressesremain options, THR said.
The film will cover Clinton's life as a young lawyer involved in Richard Nixon's impeachment, as well as her early days with husband Bill. The script was written by Young Il Kim.
Though Carey Mulligan is the top choice to play Hillary Clinton in an upcoming biopic, here are a few other leading ladies we'd like to see in the role:
- Jennifer Lawrence: Reports have said she's the other top contender for the job, and we know she has the grit after her turn in "Hunger Games."
- Gwyneth Paltrow: If the star of "Iron Man" can deal with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, she can surely handle Bubba.
- Meg Ryan: Her role in "You've Got Mail" will prepare her for that time Hillary Clinton signed up for an AOL email address (that happened, right?).
