Charges dropped for 3 of the 11 suspects in Bronx gay bash
Charges were dropped Tuesday against three teens arrested in connection with a string of horrific bias attacks against gays in the Bronx.
Prosecutors told a Bronx Supreme Court judge that there wasn’t enough evidence against three of the 11 suspects – Steven Caraballo, Bryan Almonte and Brian Cepeda – who had been arrested for gang-related assault, robbery and imprisonment.
“The defendants should not be painted with a broad brush,” Defense Attorney Paul Hororwitz told reporters at the hearing, and the case requires a “thorough investigation.”
Eleven youths and men, described by police as members of the Latin King Goonies, were arrested for allegedly taking part in gang-related beatings Oct. 3 in Morris Heights.
The day began with the torture of a teenage gang recruit they believed was gay, and later included an attack on another teen and a 30-year-old man the gang suspected of having a sexual relationship with the two teens.
