Cheap$kate: FREE events in NYC this weekend
Blackalicious at Celebrate Brooklyn!
Known for “tongue-twisting” complex rhymes and “classic” beats, hip-hop duo Blackalicious brings its West Coast stylings to Prospect Park Thursday night, taking the stage at Celebrate Brooklyn! Rapper Gift of Gab and DJ/producer Chief Xcel — who have made a name for themselves with positive, uplifting lyrics — return to Brooklyn after a 2003 performance in front of 8,000 fans. The show will open with D-Nice on the turntables and local group Phony Ppl. Though the show’s FREE, there’s a suggested donation of $3 at the gate, so if you can spare it, don’t be a total Cheap$kate. (Thursday night, 7:30 p.m., gates at 6:30 p.m., FREE, suggested $3 donation, Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West, at Ninth St., 718-683-5600, bricartsmedia.org/cb)
