City employees will now directly help Sandy relief efforts.

The mayor announced a plan Sunday that set aside part of city workers' paychecks for the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City.

The fund, which has $35 million so far, helps to buy such items as water, hot food, toiletries, baby supplies, warm clothing, blankets and more, and helps to pay for long-term needs.

"Small donations can make a big difference," the mayor said in a statement. The deductions will run for a two-month spread, he said.
