  • Council set to override Mike to save parking grace period

The City Council Monday overwhelmingly passed a bill giving drivers a five-minute parking grace period, a move that rebukes the mayor for the city’s perceived ticket blitzes.

The 47-2 vote to give drivers extra minutes past the expired time on Muni-Meters and at alternate-side parking zones means the council has enough support to override the veto promised by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Council members have argued that many drivers are slapped with “gotcha tickets” just a minute or two after the meter has expired.
