Council to investigate rising gas prices in the city
The City Council says it's going to take a deep look at Gotham's pump prices.
On Sept. 20, the Council's Committee on Consumer Affairs will hold an oversight hearing to see if the city is doing enough to enforce its laws that help keep gas prices from skyrocketing.
The average price of gas in the city is more than $4 while the national average is about $3.80, according to gasbuddy.com.
Under city regulations, gas stations can’t raise their prices within a 24-hour period.
"As gas prices rise, we need to be even more vigilant to ensure that the city is protecting consumers from unknown charges or other unscrupulous practices," Councilman Dan Garodnick, the committee's chair said in a statement.
