City Councilman Peter Vallone took a page out of Newark Mayor Cory Booker's book Saturday when he and his two brothers came to the rescue of some swimmers in New Jersey.

Vallone said he was spending time with his family in Long Branch, N.J. when his brothers, Paul and Perry, spotted six kids swimming in the water after lifeguards left for the day at 5 p.m.

Two girls from the group got separated and the Vallone brothers, all of whom used to work as lifeguards, raced to get to them.

"Your instincts and training kick in and it's fortunate we were there at the right time," Peter Vallone said.

Perry was able to get one of the girls before she got too far and Paul and Peter reached out to the other stranded girl as she was roughly 20 yards away from the shore, according to the councilman.

The girls were not seriously hurt, according to Vallone, who wrote about the rescue on his Facebook page.

New Jersey is already home to one hero politican; Booker helped rescue a neighbor from a burning building in April.
