It’s goodbye Katie and hello Sully.

Katie Couric took her final bows after five controversial years at the helm of “The CBS Evening News” Thursday night, thanking viewers for “coming along with me on this incredible journey.”

The CBS journey is just beginning for hero pilot Capt. Chesley Sullenberger, who was tapped by the network Thursday to serve as its official aviation and safety expert.

Sully, who in January 2009 became an overnight sensation after masterfully landing a US Airways jet on the Hudson River with no loss of life, will be a presence on the network’s news programs.

Couric is expected to emerge on her own talk show, and will be replaced at CBS by Scott Pelley starting on June 6.
