Cuomo ramps up gay marriage push in N.Y.
Pushing marriage equality as the “next chapter of our civil rights story,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a new video Monday asking for New Yorkers to call their state legislators and tell them to support a potential same-sex marriage bill.
The video is a more visible sign that the Democratic governor is trying to orchestrate a vote in Albany before the legislative session ends June 20.
He has also begun personally lobbying Republican and Democratic lawmakers who’ve said they are open to voting yes on a marriage-equality bill, according to reports, a change in tactic from previous weeks.
The governor’s office did not return a call seeking comment Monday.
A similar bill in the Senate failed in 2009 after Republicans and a handful of Democrats voted it down.
