Former VP Dick Cheney had a secret resignation letter signed and ready to file during his time in office that he kept because of his ailing health problems, he said in an interview teased Wednesday.

The tidbit is contained in Cheney's forthcoming memoir, "In My Time," about which he revealed details in an interview with NBC released yesterday.

"I did it because I was concerned ... for a couple of reasons," Cheney said.

"One was my own health situation. The possibility that I might have a heart attack or a stroke that would be incapacitating. And, there is no mechanism for getting rid of a vice president who can't function," he said.

Cheney, 70, spoke to the TV network about his memoir and gave a few glimpses of some of the book's topics, saying it'll probably cause some controversy when it's released this Tuesday.

"There are going be heads exploding all over Washington," he said.

During the interview, set to air Monday, Cheney was asked whether the book might embarrass former president George W. Bush, to which he replied: "I didn't set out to embarrass the president or not embarrass the president," Cheney said. "I say some very fine things about George Bush. And believe every word of it."
