DJ Tracy Young tackles mice in bike-friendly NYC
Tracy Young, 41, who DJed at Madonna's wedding, and spun at "Splash," just dropped a remix of Deborah Cox's song, "If It Wasn't for Love." Young is also scheduled to DJ at John Blair's soon-to-open club, XL, at 42nd and Tenth Ave.
Q: What would you most like to see changed or accomplished in NYC?
A: Get rid of the rodents! I pay $3,000 a month for my duplex in Chelsea and I have mice! They're everywhere! I live on the ground floor, but they're even on the top floors! The city should inspect these buildings more and have more consequences for landlords.
Q: What is New York's best kept secret?
A: Food carts: For $5 you can get chicken and rice and it fills you up for the entire day. Then you buy your water from the deli, because it's cheaper. I'm saving my money because I want to buy my own place - a condo - and not have a landlord.
Q: Where do you go to listen to music?
A: I just heard a great band at this place, Le Poisson Rouge (at 158 Bleecker St.). I haven't gotten out to Williamsburg yet but I like Pacha on West 46th for the variety of DJs.
Q: What's your favorite place in New York?
A: The bike lanes! It's so great we have these bike lanes! They're safe, and I don't worry about riding anywhere. I wear heels and a full trench, the whole thing, on my 10-speed: New York is all about fashion. One time a guy asked me for my autograph and I was wearing my pajamas, so I learned.
Q: What's the best investment a New Yorker can make?
A: A bike! I tell everyone, "buy a bike!" You spend $30 on a cab just to go visit someone.
