Embrace fall's hottest beauty trends
Fall has arrived, and it's time to spice up your look. This season, the hottest beauty trends come straight from the runways of Fashion Week -- here's a how-to for re-creating fall's most gorgeous looks and a guide to the products you'll need to do so.
WINE LIPS: Wine lips are a beautiful, autumn-appropriate alternative to red. Use a lip liner after you apply lipstick to create a beautiful blend and a more natural lip line, suggests Laura Mercier Global Makeup Artist Jeffrey Tasker. "You can also use a soft lip gloss and apply it lightly in the center of the lip," he says. "It gives a sexy heart-shaped lip."
SMOKY PLUM EYELIDS: Plum is an easy hue to wear because "it complements every eye color," says Jason Hoffman of Cargo Cosmetics. When applying plum all over the lid, choose a shadow with shimmer, which is easier to blend than a matte shade is, says Hoffman. To make the color stronger, apply an eye pencil first and then press the plum shadow on top.
CAT-EYE LINER: For Michael Kors' fall 2013 show, Shiseido Makeup Artistic Director Dick Page created what he calls a "sharp, chic and graphic" cat-eye look, which is beautiful for fall. First, he applied a "squarish wedge" shape of shadow in the center of the eyelid and then blended it to the outer edge of the eye. Muted pink lips offset the dramatic eyes perfectly.
NATURAL BEAUTY: When going for a natural makeup look, the complexion is key, says Hoffman, of Cargo Cosmetics. Start with a lightweight foundation or tined moisturizer, followed by a concealer. Keep colors on the face in neutral shades "so nothing is too overpowering," says Hoffman, adding that the eyes are the least important feature of the natural look.
