Fares in some taxis to increase on Tuesday

Your cab ride may be getting more expensive Tuesday.
Many hacks will begin collecting a 17% fare hike Tuesday, which was approved by the Taxi and Limousine Commission in July. Only drivers who have recalibrated their meters and corrected the prices posted outside their taxi can charge the higher rate; others will collect the old fare.
The charge for each 1/5 mile and 60 seconds in traffic will increase from 40 cents to 50 cents, while the initial $2.50 fee and all other surcharges will stay the same. The average cost of a three-mile trip will go up by about $1.75.
The fare increase is the drivers' first since 2006.
