  • Fashion designer dead in Soho Hotel; ex-flame questioned

    A swimsuit fashion designer was found dead in a tub early Thursday at the posh Soho House Hotel, and her boyfriend, the son of Oscar-winning songwriter Joseph Brooks, is being questioned in her death.

    Sylvie Cachay, 33, was found alone and partially clothed in her fifth-floor room when police arrived around 3 a.m.

    She was unconscious and unresponsive, police said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Sources said hours before she was found, Cachay broke up with her boyfriend, Nicholas Brooks, 24, which whom she checked into the hotel on Wednesday. His now 72-year-old father, who author of the 1977 ballad “You Light Up My Life.”

    The elder Brooks had a run-in with the law himself last year when he was charged with sexually assaulting 11 aspiring actresses.

    Reports said Nicholas Brooks he was questioned all day. Police wouldn’t confirm his name, but did say they were questioning someone.

    Cachay had red marks around her neck when police found her, and officials are investigating whether she was strangled, reports said. No one was charged as of Thursday night.

    A spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office no cause of death was yet known.

    “It’s incredible,” Cachay’s mother, Sylvia, told the Post. “She was an artist. She was a painter. Everything was perfect. You know the stories with everything that's perfect, it doesn't seem real yet.”

    Cops were called to the room after the tub overflowed and began to leak water into the room below.
