Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week brings the city not just designer dresses and bling, but also a whole lot of cha-ching.

A study by Fordham University and the city, based on last February's Fashion Week, found that the event creates $40 million in economic activity in and around the Lincoln Square area.

The entire city benefited to the tune of $233 million in economic activity in 2008 (the most recent statistics available), according to the New York City Economic Development Corp.

The Fordham study breaks down the increase in profits to local businesses
    as follows:

    Restaurants
    $9 Million

    Hotels
    $6 Million

    Retail
    $6.8 Million

    Venues
    $11 Million
