Flatbush man arrested for threatening NYPD Commish Ray Kelly

A 49-year-old East Flatbush man was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly threatening Police Commissioner Ray Kelly through a comment on the website Gothamist.
The man, Richard Strauss, who complained Monday on the website about the NYPD's monitoring of Muslim students, allegedly said Kelly is a "domestic enemy" and that "a well placed round of 7.62 ammo to his thick skull would work quite well to eliminate the threat that he poses."
Straus has a prior arrest in 2004 for firing a gun out a window and illegally possessing a weapon. He was charged Tuesday with "making a terrorist threat," said a police spokesman.
Gothamist reported that its publisher, Jake Dobkin, had been subpoenaed by the NYPD concerning the comment and surrendered the author's IP address to the police department. In cases where there is a death threat against a public official, "I felt there was a strong reason to comply," Dobkin wrote.
"Just a friendly reminder that police officers are carefully monitoring your comments on the Internets, so you should probably refrain from threatening to kill anybody," Gothamist senior editor John Del Signore said in a story about the incident on the site.
