The City Grit Fat Tuesday dinner
If you enjoy adventurous and out-of-the-box dining experiences, as well as talking about food (among other things), City Grit's culinary events are for you. At these dinners, held weekly, founder and chef Sarah Simmons creates a tasting menu around a theme or ingredient. Guest chefs are often brought in, too. On Fat Tuesday, Simmons will throw the ultimate feast. Considering her southern influences, it's sure to be creatively authentic.

The five-course meal will feature New Orleans classics like oyster po'boys, etouffé, gumbo and more. Oh, and there will be beads. Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m., 38 Prince St., $65, beer and wine available for purchase. Tickets: citygritnyc.com.

    5th Anniversary of Cochon 555
The mission of this pork-centric foodie competition is to promote sustainable farming of heritage breed pigs, and this Sunday the event kicks off a 10-city tour in NYC. The competition features female chefs only, including Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter and The Darby), Leah Cohen (Pig and Khao) and Elizabeth Falkner (Krescendo).

Each chef will prepare a menu created from a whole pig. If you like bacon, pork chops and lardons, then get your tickets now. You'll get your say too; everyone votes.

In addition to pork, there will be a cocktail competition, sustainable oysters, bourbon and wine tastings and much more. Sunday at 4 p.m. (VIP) and 5 p.m. (general admission), Chelsea Piers, West 23rd St., $125 (general admission) and $200 (VIP). Tickets: cochon555.com.
