Former heavyweight champ Tommy Morrison dies
Tommy Morrison, the former heavyweight champion who squared off against Sylvester Stallone in "Rocky V," has died. He was 44.
Morrison's former promoter told the Tulsa World newspaper that the boxer died in a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, with his wife at his side on Sunday.
The cause of death wasn't determined as of press time. Morrison, who had a record of 48-3-1 with 42 knockouts, was forced into early retirement in 1996 when he tested positive for HIV.
He later said those tests were a false positive and went on to fight two more bouts.
Morrison rose to fame outside the ring when he stared as Rocky Balboa's nemesis Tommy "The Machine" Gunn in "Rocky V."
