Free Today: Mavis Staples at SummerStage

Forget all the Friday the 13th hoopla. "The Happening" can wait -- Mavis is a must-see, and she's FREE!
Central Park kicks off its SummerStage concert series tonight with a free show with legendary civil rights soul mama Mavis Staples. She started out as part of a family group with the Staple Singers , and then blew up as a solo artist with her gospel-infused, soul-singing.
