Gun violence over the weekend leaves at least five dead
A spate of gun violence in the city over the weekend left at least five people dead and one more fighting for his life.
In one of two shootings in Queens Sunday, an unidentified 28-year-old man was found slumped over the steering wheel of a Nissan Altima just before 6 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the chest, and another unidentified 31-year-old male was found -- also with a shot to the chest -- on the sidewalk next to the car, police said. Both were rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where the 28-year-old was pronounced dead. Hospital officials said they did not know the condition of the second man Sunday night.
In the other fatal shooting in Queens Sunday, Cody Kahn, 20, was found shot to death on the street in South Jamaica, police said.
Also over the weekend:
- Sean Edwards, 40, was killed in his Brooklyn living room by a gun shot to the face.
- George Portillo, 31, was rushed to Elmhurst General Hospital Saturday night, where he died from a gunshot to the torso.
- Elijah Green, 23, was found early Saturday morning in the 14th floor stairwell of a Bronx apartment building with a gunshot to the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.
Police said they were still investigating the crimes Sunday, and had not yet made any arrests.
