New Year's Eve is known for overpriced food and drinks at overcrowded bars and restaurants. Concert venues are just about the one place you can get your money's worth. Yes, you'll pay more for a ticket, but at least you're guaranteed a long set that will run into the wee hours of the morning. Here's a look at some of what's on the musical menu that night.

    Phish
    MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
For the third year in a row, MSG will ring in the New Year with the traveling carnival that is Phish, as the group wraps up a four-night stand. Penn Station commuters are forewarned.

    Gov't Mule
    BEACON THEATRE
For those who like their jam bands a little grittier, Gov't Mule, which is led by Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes, continues its own annual tradition of New Year's shows at the Beacon.

    Nas
    RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL
One of New York's most beloved rappers not named Jay-Z, Nas' latest album, "Life Is Good," is rooted in old-school hip-hop with lyrics influenced by his divorce from singer Kelis.

Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra
    TERMINAL 5
The goth-cabaret singer known for her fan-friendliness and onstage antics will play all of Prince's "Purple Rain" album as well as her own songs.

    They Might Be Giants
    MUSIC HALL OF WILLIAMSBURG
It's hard to believe that Brooklyn's They Might Be Giants have been around for 30 years. Yet the nerdy-before-it-was-cool duo shows no sign of slowing down. Its 16th album is due out next year.

    Blonde Redhead
    IRVING PLAZA
Longtime veterans of New York's indie-rock scene, Blonde Redhead have dropped most of the noisy edge from their sound to focus on creating ethereal dream-pop.

    Punch Brothers
    BOWERY BALLROOM
Led by Chris Thile, one of America's best mandolin players, Punch Brothers can perform both traditional bluegrass and unique, rootsy covers of songs by bands like Radiohead and The Strokes.
