Hurricane Sandy a record-breaker

Atlantic City reported the highest precipitation in the area, according to Accuweather.com.
Hurricane Sandy drenched New Jersey's casino capital with 5.57 inches of rainfall on Monday. That number dwarfs the highest total in New York: 2.4 inches in Niagara.
The Associated Press reported early Tuesday afternoon the casinos in the eastern seaboard's gambling hub sustained little damage and could be reopened within hours.
The highest rainfall resulting from the storm hit Oceania/Virginia Beach, Va., at 9.57 inches.
A record storm surge was reported at Battery Park, where the water level reached 13.88 feet at 9:24 p.m. Monday, according to CNN. That bested the old mark of 10.02 feet recorded resulting from Hurricane Donna in 1960.
CNN also reported a record 32.5-foot wave in New York Harbor.
The storm's strongest wind gust hit Eatons Neck, N.Y., and was reported at 94 miles per hour.
Though New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were spared of snow, Redhouse, Md., was sacked by 26 inches of powder.
