Football fans across the city were crushed Sunday as both Jets and the Giants crashed and burned in crucial games, adding even more drama to next Saturday’s showdown at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets, facing the Eagles in Philadelphia, were routed 45-19, while the Giants stumbled against the underdog Redskins at home, going down 23-10.

With both teams failing to reach their high expectations, yesterday's losses were just more frustration for fans who are hoping their teams can somehow slip into the post-season.

"They always do this to me, lose when it counts," said Giants diehard Ken Quinton, 60, of Astoria. "They’re done. They should’ve crushed them. I’m done after they’re out."

Jets fans were equally dejected, well aware that Saturday afternoon's game against the Giants could determine their playoff fate.

"They didn't show up. Pretty much from the first drive on it was a disaster," said Jets fan P.J. Schwarts, 35, who watched the loss at midtown's Brother Jimmy's.

He added: "They're not a Super Bowl contender."

While the loser of next Saturday’s showdown won't face an automatic elimination from the playoffs, the loser faces an uphill climb.

"I think both teams are really coming off a tough losses, and it really is gonna be a toss-up," said Brian Basssett of thejetsblog.com. "The Giants aren't a great team, and the Jets aren't a great team either, but the Giants do have some great weapons that could spell terrible news for the Jets."

Still, some fans will always stay faithful.

"No matter what, I'll always be a Jets fan," said Daniel Diaz, 24, of Murray Hill. "That's my team."
