Comedy Central funny man Jon Stewart will take a serious turn as a board member on the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, the group announced Thursday.
Stewart, as host of “The Daily Show” and a Lower Manhattan resident, championed the 9/11-related legislation that provides money to responders who became sick at Ground Zero. He joins other celebs on the board, including actors Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal.
A memorial spokesman said Stewart was asked to join the 46-member board, adding that the organization’s President Joe Daniels sees Stewart’s audience as a way to promote the foundation’s efforts.
