Judge rules against station agent layoffs
In a sudden turn of an events, a state judge ruled late Wednesday night to stop the layoffs of 468 station agents set to have their last day Thursday.
Judge Alice Schlesinger put a temporary stay on the layoffs affecting booth workers across the city, according to legal papers, and ordered the MTA and Transport Workers Union 100 to make oral arguments in her court Thursday morning.
“There is a concern that the closing of the booths … has not been done to proper procedures,” Schlesinger wrote in the three-page stay.
Station agents showed up at a NYC Transit facility in Brooklyn to surrender their uniforms early Thursday only to be told to get back to work.
