Kevin Ware on crutches after surgery, in 'great spirits': Reports
Louisville guard Kevin Ware is up and walking on crutches after a two-hour surgery to reset a leg bone he broke during Sunday night's Midwest Regional against Duke, according to published reports.
Ware, a sophomore, broke a bone in his right leg in a grisly accident when he went up to block a three-point attempt, slammed to the ground and snapped his leg.
His team went on to win the game 85-63 and earn a spot in the Final Four. Louisville coach Rick Pitino said Ware is "doing terrific" and the team has been very supportive.
"I was there to visit with him last night when he got out of surgery," Pitino told reporters, according to ESPN. "He's in great spirits. He received phone calls from Joe Theismann, Greg Anthony. A lot of positive calls."
"He's on crutches. They want his blood flowing."
Louisville will play Wichita State on Saturday in Atlanta.
