Local airports derided by Frommer's as worst in the world
Terminals in LaGuardia and Kennedy and Newark Liberty International airports all rank in "The 10 Worst Airport Terminals," according to a report by Frommers.com.
The travel website rated Kennedy Airport's Terminal 3, a Delta hub, as the worst in the world, describing the place as "a rotten, worm infested cake."
Frommers also excoriated LaGuardia's U.S. Airways Terminal and Newark's Terminal B for their non-intuitive design, dinginess, crowding, lack of amenities and poor or non-existent connections.
The hat trick is no surprise, columnist Sascha Segan wrote on the website, given that all three airports are run by the Port Authority, an agency Segan described as "a hideously mismanaged money sink that does a poor job of responding to air travelers' needs."
A spokesman for the Port Authority said that that it has "invested significantly" to improve its terminals. Spokesman Ron Marsico said the agency has partnered with Delta on a $1.2 billion expansion to fix JFK's outdated Terminal 3 and is in the middle of a $350 million renovation of Newark's Terminal B "to make the flow of passengers and baggage more efficient." And, Frommers, he added, also "ranked Terminal 5 at JFK as the world's fifth best terminal."
