Lower gas prices mean more Memorial Day travelers: poll
More Americans are expected to travel this Memorial Day by car, helped out in part by a drop in gas prices, according to an analysis by AAA.
The auto club estimates that nearly 35 million people will take a trip of at least 50 miles this year - an increase of about 500,000 from 2011. But while more people will be driving, many won't be going as far; the poll found that people will travel 150 miles less than last year.
Some other findings:
- 10% of people in the NY metro region are going somewhere over Memorial Day
- Area airlines are expected to see a 6% reduction in passengers this year
- A gallon of gas in New York City cost about $4.08 ye; It was $4.28 at this time last year
