Major Off-Broadway theaters shut down, more
Most Broadway shows were able to resume performances on Wednesday, with the rest following suit by Thursday. Quite a few were offering substantial discounts to entice theatergoers. The status of Off-Broadway, however, is all over the place. As of Thursday night, all the major Off-Broadway companies below midtown remained literally in the dark.
Nixon play 'Checkers' indefinitely postponed
Opening night of "Checkers," a play about Richard Nixon in 1952, which had been scheduled for Wednesday, was indefinitely postponed by the Vineyard Theatre earlier in the week. The Public Theater, which has no less than four plays now running, also remains without power. Other affected theaters included Classic Stage, Atlantic Theater Company, Irish Rep and Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Danner, Potts celebrate 'Magnolias' anniversary
Just a few weeks following the premiere of a new television film version of Robert Harling's "Steel Magnolias," the all-female beauty parlor comedy will receive a 25th anniversary benefit reading on Dec. 3 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Directed by Judith Ivey, the cast will include Blythe Danner, Annie Potts, Sarah Stiles and Celia Keenan-Bolger.
