Man sued for $2 million after alleged cat killing: Report
An Upper East Side teacher is suing a man for $2 million after he allegedly trashed her apartment and led to the death of her cat, according to published reports.
Jessica Barrish, 30, invited her college friend Joseph Ari Chiesa to her birthday party at her apartment last May. But when Barrish and her friends left the apartment to continue the party, Chiesa, 29, lingered behind, the New York Post reported.
There Chiesa smashed furniture, stole a $3,000 bracelet, and “repeatedly whacked the cat against a chair and a window screen,” according to the Post.
When Barrish returned home, she found blood-spattered walls, furniture, and clothing--along with her cat, which died of injuries in Barrish’s bedroom.
Chiesa spent four months in jail after pleading guilty to aggravated animal cruelty in October, but Barrish is suing him the additional $2 million for property damages and mental suffering.
Barrish still has “flashbacks from the scene and nightmares about it virtually every day since,” court papers allege.
