    Goodbye J.Lo, and hello Mariah!

Mariah Carey is confirmed to be a judge on "American Idol" next season, Fox announced Monday, following the recent news that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will not return for another season of the singing competition show. There's no word yet on whether Randy Jackson - who has been with the show since its inception - will keep his job.

Fox made the big announcement at the Television Critics Association summer tour in California Monday.

"As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with 'American Idol,'" the 42-year-old songstress and mom of two said in a statement Monday. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show, which is a massive global phenomenon."

"Idol" - whose past members of the judges' panel include Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres - returns to the airwaves in January 2013 in its 12th season.
