Whoa, Mariah!
Mariah Carey is slated to earn a whopping $18 million paycheck for her first season as a judge on Fox's "American Idol," making her the top-paid judge in reality competition TV, sources connected with the show told TMZ.com.
The "Idol" newbie trumps both Britney Spears' current salary for judging fellow Fox show "The X Factor" - $15 million - and former "Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez's moolah earned during her first year on the show: $12 million. On Monday afternoon, Fox announced that Carey, 42, will join the upcoming season of "Idol."
Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler recently announced their departures from "Idol" after two seasons each, and the jury is still out on whether veteran judge Randy Jackson will make a comeback.
"As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with 'American Idol,'" Carey said Monday. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show, which is a massive global phenomenon."
