Mets looking to even the score as Subway Series heads to Citi Field
After the Yankees delivered an embarrassing sweep of the Mets two weeks ago, the two teams will go head-to-head again this weekend in the season's second Subway Series, ending Sunday in a banner matchup between pitchers CC Sabathia and newly minted superstar R.A. Dickey.
Both teams have had a stellar couple of weeks.
The Mets head into the weekend riding a three-game sweep of the Orioles, and while the Yankees have dropped two straight, they won 10 straight before the skid.
As the series returns to Citi Field, the Amazin's may have a shot at evening up the score, fans and experts said.
"With the series coming home the Mets absolutely should take at least two out of three," said Corey Katerman, 40, a Mets fan from Forest Hills.
"The Mets are playing a lot better than they were two weeks ago, and Dickey is unstoppable," Katerman added.
Rob Castellano, a Mets blogger at AmazinAvenue.com, agreed.
"As a fan, obviously I want to get even. I've been hearing all the griping of Yankees fans for the beatdown on us since the last series, so there's a lot at stake for the fan base," he said.
"The way they're pitching right now is unbelievable, so I'm hoping things turn out a little better this time," Castellano said.
Still, Yankees die-hards aren't backing down.
"They're in great shape. Coming off that 10 game winning streak is huge, they're really hitting their stride," said Mike Tursi of YankeesGab.com.
"The Mets are a good team this year," he added, "and you can't argue with what they've done this year, but it's the Yankees."
