More MTA service resuming, including subways: Gov. Cuomo

Some subways will be coming back on Thursday, officials said, and commuter rail service was scheduled to resume on Wednesday afternoon.

Days after a system-wide subway shutdown that began on Sunday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said the MTA would resume service 6 a.m. Thursday on 14 of its 23 subway lines, but trains would not run south of 34th Street because power had not yet been restored to the area.

To get commuters from Brooklyn into Manhattan, 330 buses will be used as "bus bridges" on Thursday, Cuomo said, running from the Barclays Center, MetroTech and Hewes Street station. Buses will also take commuters up Third Avenue and down Lexington Ave.

Cuomo said the A, C, L, R and No. 7 train's tunnels were still flooded Wednesday afternoon, but that three of seven of its tunnels under the East River had been cleared of water.

Subways expected to resume Thursday include:- The Nos. 1 and 2 trains will run from the Bronx to Times Square.

- No. 4 trains will run from Woodlawn to Grand Central and from Borough Hall and New Lots Ave.

- No. 5 trains will run express in Brooklyn between Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue.

- No. 6 trains will run between Pelham Bay Park and Grand Central.

- The 42nd Street Shuttle will run. The Brooklyn shuttles will not run.

- A trains will run between 168th Street and Penn Station and between Jay Street/MetroTech and Lefferts Blvd.

- D trains will run between 205th Street and Herald Square and Between Atlantic Avenue and Bay Parkway.

- F trains will run between 179th Street and Herald Square and between Jay Street/MetroTech and Avenue X.

- J trains will run between Jamaica and Hewes Street.

- L trains run between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Parkway.

- M trains will run between Myrtle Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue.

- N trains will run between Ditmars Blvd and Herald Square.

- R trains will run between Jay Street/MetroTech and 95th Street.

- The B, C, E, G, Q, No. 3 and No. 7 lines will be suspended.

Metro-North planned to run local trains on its Harlem line hourly from North While Plains to Grand Central Terminal beginning at 2 p.m. LIRR trains were also scheduled to start about the same time between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal. Cuomo said the LIRR's "goal" was to have the Ronkonkoma branch and Port Washington branch from Great Neck running hourly trains to Penn Station by rush hour on Thursday morning.

Officials also said Metro-North and LIRR customers with monthly passes would have them extended through Monday, but an MTA spokesman said a decision had not yet been made on whether monthly MetroCards would be extended. In the meantime, the LIRR will only be charging off-peak prices until full service is restored, Cuomo said.

The MTA was offering free buses throughout the city on Wednesday, but they were plagued by slow moving traffic and overcrowding, which forced many drivers to skip stops because they couldn't pick up additional passengers. Lhota said he was working with the city to try to dedicate some lanes to buses to help them move faster.

2 trains will operate between 241st Street (Bronx) and Times Square-42nd Street, with express service between 96th Street and Times Square.

3 trains are suspended.

4 trains will operate in two sections making all local stops:

· Between Woodlawn (Bronx) and Grand Central-42nd Street
· Between Borough Hall and New Lots Avenue

5 trains will operate express in Brooklyn between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Flatbush Avenue.

6 trains will operate local between Pelham Bay Park and Grand Central-42nd Street.

7 trains are suspended.

42nd Street Shuttle S trains will operate between Times Square and Grand Central.

A trains will operate in two sections making all local stops:

· Between 168th Street (Manhattan) and 34th Street-Penn Station
· Between Jay Street/MetroTech and Lefferts Blvd.

B and C service is suspended.

D trains operate in two sections:

· Between 205th Street (Bronx) and 34th Street-Herald Square making all local stops
· In Brooklyn, between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Bay Parkway making express stops between Pacific Street and 36th Street

E trains are suspended.

F trains operate in two sections making all local stops:

· Between 179th Street (Queens) and 34th Street-Herald Square
· In Brooklyn, between Jay Street-MetroTech and Avenue X

G trains are suspended.

J trains operate between Jamaica Center and Hewes Street making all local stops.
